Grampa's Meet The Cast Description From Mothering Heights
Dog Man: Big Jim Begins[]
He's not exactly a bad guy - Just a mean, selfish, egotistical guy. He is also Big Jim's cellmate in Cat Jail.
Dog Man: Big Jim Begins (Young/Disco Grampa)[]
Same as above, only younger and groovier.
Dog Man: Big Jim Believes[]
Grampa As A Baby
A big, selfish meanie. He shares a cell with Big Jim in the upper left-hand corner of Cat Jail.
Dog Man: Big Jim Believes (Baby)[]
The world's gloomiest, grouchiest, and most miserable baby.
Appearance[]
Grampa is a ginger cat with stripes. He has 5 whiskers (after disguising as Petey; formerly 6) and a stubble from a shaved beard. His fur color is slightly grayer than Petey's, showing his age and distinguish. He normally wears a pair of round, black glasses. In Dog Man: Big Jim Begins and Dog Man: Big Jim Believes, he wears a pink superhero costume. Halfway through Dog Man: Big Jim Believes, he is transformed into a cute little stuffie.
Grampa’s film-counterpart gives him a more aged and unkempt appearance, upgrading his stubble to a scruffy grey beard and making his glasses green, bent, and crooked.
Personality[]
Grampa is an evil, selfish, arrogant, careless, abusive, and irresponsible father, having no love for Petey whatsoever. He is also shown to be incredibly rude to his grandson when he refused to hear Li'l Petey's life story of meeting Flippy. He is reckless, immature, and does not show respect for others and their belongings. Despite also abusing and abandoning Petey's mother, he is shown to be visibly upset about it when talking about her in Big Jim Begins. He is also shown to have a habit of lying sometimes, as in Big Jim Believes, he tells a twisted version of the events of the previous book, painting himself in a good light (essentially giving him an overly exaggerated muscular build), while he portrays Big Jim and Dog Man as helpless idiots, while also making out the Space Cuties to be massive and threatening monsters in contrast to their docile appearance.
History[]
Before Dog Man[]
Grampa was born to two simple minded parents named Phil and Fritzi, who named him after Fritzi's dear old Grampa. Grampa was the grumpiest and most miserable baby, due to the fact that a lot of people made fun of him for his name. This led Grampa to come up with a plan to drive far away from his birth place and start a new life as soon as he gets a car, in order to be happy. Many years later, when Grampa grew into a young adult, he finally got a car, left his parents, drove far away from his birth place, and started a new life... but he wasn't happy. So he came up with a new plan to become successful and make tons of money, in order to be happy. Many years later, as Grampa grew older, he finally became successful and made tons of money from his disco business... but he wasn't happy. So he came up with an even newer plan to get married and have all the love he needs, in order to be happy. Many years later, as Grampa grew more older, he met a calico cat named Grace and finally got married, fathered a son named Petey, and had all the love he needed... but he wasn't happy. Because of this, he eventually started acting less friendly and more rude towards Grace and Petey. Eventually, he blew up his disco business, sold his family home, took his own insurance and money, and abandoned Petey and Grace (who was sick and later passed away, leaving Petey as an orphan). All of that has led Grampa to believe that his life has been one disappointment after another. Grampa also knows how Petey's tail became flat, but that information has not yet been revealed, with it implying that the former had a hand in the incident.
For Whom the Ball Rolls[]
Grampa was invited to breakfast in Petey's lab by Li'l Petey and 80-HD, much to Petey's dismay. He said to Petey that he "had a nice place" before proceeding to break the dishes, saying it was Petey's fault they got broken. He constantly annoyed Petey by showing heavy distaste to his seafood crackers and describing him as a "crybaby" when he was Li'l Petey's age. Later, when his son & grandson left to save the world, Grampa took all of their belongings from the lab and attempted to sell them with his rental truck. He was later busted and taken to Cat Jail.
Fetch-22[]
Petey and Li'l Petey go to Cat Jail to see Grampa. Unfortunately, Grampa uses sleeping gas in the visiting room, making Petey and his son fall asleep. He then disguises himself as Petey and makes Petey look like himself. Afterwards, he kidnaps Li'l Petey and escapes Cat Jail with his disguise, but he leaves Li'l Petey in a recycle bin before heading back into Petey's lab. When Li'l Petey arrives back at Petey's lab, he pretends that Grampa is his papa and makes Grampa cook food for him, much to Grampa's annoyance. Later in the book, he tries to help the Fair Fairy accomplish her evil deeds, just before Zuzu stops them by pouring an antidote into a swamp in order to turn Molly's 21 siblings back to normal. Then, after an escape attempt, Grampa (along with the Fair Fairy) gets caught indirectly by Big Jim. After 80-HD proves who the real Grampa is by washing the disguise off of Petey, Grampa gets sent back to Cat Jail.
Grime and Punishment[]
Grampa holding the newly-created Motorbrain invention.
Grampa invents a machine called the Motor Brain, which can multiply someone's personality and makes the whole character centered around how they really feel. Grampa tests the Motor Brain on Big Jim, which causes him to turn into Snug and cuddle Grampa. Grampa is scared of Snug and runs from him, accidentally discovering Big Jim's secret Cupcake Exit in the process. Later, Grampa uses the Motor Brain on himself, which turns him into Crud, and escapes Cat Jail to wreak havoc on the city. Later, Crud is caught in a trap set by Dog Man, who is disguised as a cat. However, Crud manages to escape with his brute strength. After that, he brings a giant lunch bag to life and tries to take over the world. Near the end of the book, Crud encounters Petey and Li'l Petey and intends to give them a big punishment. However, Petey forgives him, which shocks and annoys Crud to the point where he takes off the Motor Brain and turns back to Grampa, while also claiming that he never did anything wrong that deserves forgiving. After Petey and Li'l Petey leave, Grampa is disappointed that Petey didn't fight to the point where he kicks the Motor Brain away. However, the Motor Brain lands next to Big Jim, who then puts it on and becomes Snug again. Grampa runs off in horror as Snug chases him again.
Dog Man: Mothering Heights[]
Grampa returns in this book with yet another evil plan and escapes from Cat Jail with Big Jim while disguised as a robot. While trying to obtain Living Spray and Cannery Grow, he and Big Jim accidentally make two giant Sippy Cups come to life. As one of the sippy cups eats Big Jim and Grampa, Grampa ends up calling Big Jim "buddy", which causes them to start a back-and-forth argument about it. Soon, Big Jim and Grampa are freed from the sippy cup after Mecha Molly defeats it with her chainsaws. Grampa is last seen walking back to Cat Jail with Big Jim, still arguing with each other.
Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder[]
Despite not appearing physically, he was mentioned by young Petey during flashback scenes.
Dog Man: Big Jim Begins[]
Grampa is forced to team up with Big Jim (Commander Cupcake) as a superhero named Sprinkles, in an attempt to find the Ring of Destiny and Stuff. Later, he defeats the Space Cuties with hugs, saves the world, and "learns the meaning of kindness", much to Big Jim's disapproval, even though the aliens were just robots.
Dog Man: Big Jim Believes[]
Grampa reveals his backstory in this book, as mentioned above. He later gets cutie-fied by the Space Cuties' cutie shooties, along with the other heroes. Grampa tries to defeat the Space Cuties with hugs again, but the Hug-Proof Space Stank prevents him from doing so, and he ends up getting beaten up with twelve epic smackdowns instead. He is also stuck looking like a cute little stuffie forever because he refused to eat a maple banana flavored cupcake (due to hating the flavor), which turns out to have contained the antidote to cutification.
Trivia[]
- Grampa could potentially be the reason Petey's tail became flat, judging by his abusive nature and his knowledge on how it became injured. However, this is uncertain. (Many say Petey injured his tail because he accidentally shut a window on it, but that's only seen in the movie.)
- Li'l Petey gave Grampa a chance to be good, but he rejected him, only shouting, "WHO ASKED YOU?!!!?".
- In Grime and Punishment, when Grampa/Crud says, "CRUD SMASH!", it's a reference to the Incredible Hulk's famous catchphrase, "HULK SMASH!".
- He is indirectly mentioned by Petey during his flashbacks in Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder.
- It is revealed in Big Jim Believes that Grampa's first name is, indeed, Grampa. His full name, Grampa The Cat, is shown on his birth certificate.
- The birth certificate also reveals that his birthday is August 23rd, 1922, implying that he is 103 years old.
