This is a list of fourth wall breaks in the Dog Man series. A fourth wall breakage is when characters mention the fact that they are in a book. Examples of fourth wall breakages will be depicted in bold.

Dog Man[]

  • The introductory comic states that after George and Harold created Captain Underpants, their lives became much more complicated and filled with "danger, horror, and ridiculously convoluted plot lines."
  • When Sarah says "We interrupt this comic for breaking news," she is mentioning that they are in a comic book.
  • On page 208, the hot dogs are annoyed by the caption above the panel calling them "little baby hot dogs".

Dog Man: Unleashed[]

  • When the Supa Brain Dots fall into Flippy's bowl, the last four panels show his brain growing in reference to the Grinch's heart growing in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and are accompanied by captions reading: "And what happened next? Well in this book they say: Flippy's brain grew eleven sizes that day."
  • Chief says that no one learned anything and there wasn't any character development.

Dog Man: A Tale of Two Kitties[]

Dog Man: Lord of the Fleas[]

  • Li'l Petey and Petey can see the thought bubble panels of Petey's flashback, which also happens in Book 10.
  • When Petey finds his shrink ray, he says that he dropped it from Chapter 5.
  • On page 181, while Li'l Petey says "If you catch one, you get good luck!", Piggy looks at the reader, and he does this the whole chapter while Li'l Petey is talking to him.
  • When Chief explains why Petey needs to be arrested, Petey says he's been good the whole book.

Dog Man: Brawl of the Wild[]

  • When the fake Dog Man is revealed to be a robot controlled by the FLEAS, Sarah says, "Hey! It's those little FLEAS guys from our last book!"
  • At the beginning of chapter 10, Sarah says, "We interrupt the beginning of this chapter with a supa sensational news story!!!"

Dog Man: For Whom the Ball Rolls[]

  • Dr. Scum saying he was in the first book is a running gag.
  • After Dr. Scum says he has "four new armies up his sleevies", Li'l Petey tells him his joke was "the pits," to which Dr. Scum replies, "Hey! I make the corny jokes in this book!"
  • In Sarah's news blog at the end, the post about Grampa's arrest states that he totally missed the point of this book.

Dog Man: Fetch-22[]

  • The tadpoles' song about Barky McTreeface features the lyric "Now it's Flip-O-Rama time!"

Dog Man: Grime and Punishment[]

  • After undergoing an Incredible Hulk-esque transformation, Grampa escapes from Cat Jail and wreaks havoc, yelling, "CRUD PROVIDE UNNECESSARY NARRATION!!!"

Dog Man: Mothering Heights[]

  • Kinney mentions that the Cannery Grow Factory was destroyed in Book 5.
  • Sarah and Petey can see the Patients at the hospital through the TV screen when they are eating the candy Nurse Lady gave them.
    • Also, Sarah says, "Speaking of weird transitions..."
  • Li'l Petey, Petey, and Molly can see the thought bubble panels of Petey's flashback, which also happens in Book 5.

Dog Man: Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea[]

  • On page 22, Genie S. Lady says "With the power of Flip- O-Rama!"
  • On page 116, Petey mentioned that he told Molly and Li'l Petey why everyone didn't want to help him in the last book.
  • After Sarah tells them that real heroes never give up, Molly and Li'l Petey comment on how smart she is. Petey protests that he said the same thing a few chapters ago.
    • Similarly, at the end, when Sarah says, "You can just dip your toes in, or you can fathom the soundless depths," Petey retorts, "That's what I was talking about back in Chapter 5!!!"
  • On page 223, the Friendly Friends sing about "flying 'cross the page".


Cat Kid Comic Club: Perspectives[]

  • Summer mentioned that Chapter 8's title, "The Saddest Friday of All Time," was way off.

Cat Kid Comic Club: Collaborations[]

  • Starla tells Sarah, "If you really look, everything is beautiful. Just open your heart!" Sarah says, "That's a lovely thought. You should write a haiku about that!", to which Starla replies, "I just did!", and points to the panel above. Sarah looks up and reads the haiku in Starla's speech bubble.
  • Melvin mentioned that they broke the phone "in the last book".
  • On page 205, Naomi says that she's been trying to figure out her purpose "for the last two books".

Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder[]

  • In the wedding, Nurse Lady says "A cheesily animated kiss!"
  • After Maude became Chief, Li'l Petey and Molly said Dog Man was here 2 pages ago.
  • Dr. Scum said that he was the bad guy in 2 books.
