Petey shook in his metaphorical boots. Who was this Alvah person?
Alvah took out a sword. “My slaves require tech to fight. I am not so limited!” He lunged at Chief.
“Look out!” Petey warned Chief. He jumped out of the way just in time.
Petey was terrified. Alvah was so fast! They weren’t good enough fighters to beat this guy! They hadn’t brought any weapons-
Bam bam bam! Petey looked around wildly. Chief- Chief had a gun? “Stand back,” he yelled. Chief continued to fire at Alvah, but he wasn’t a very good shot.
“Oh- give me that!” Petey stuck out his hand and Chief handed him the gun.
Bam! With one shot he got Alvah in the leg.
“GAHHHH!” Alvah yelled. He fell down on the floor. Petey suddenly realized what he had just done. He shot someone! What was he doing…
Petey hated guns. He was fine with lasers and cannons but not guns, never guns. His father had had a gun…
He threw the weapon on the floor, disgusted with himself. He shot someone…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chief hated having to resort to the gun. He had only brought it because he realized that no one else had a weapon, and he had taken it just in case they got in a situation like this.
He wasn’t a great shot though, and kept missing. “Oh- give me that!” Petey said, and Chief obliged. Petey took the weapon and shot Alvah in the leg. Petey looked shocked, and tossed the gun aside. Chief didn’t retrieve it. He hated the thing.
Alvah let out an agonized scream of pain. He was bleeding heavily from where the bullet had pierced his leg. “Someone call 911!” yelled Sarah. Alvah was looking very pale. Dog Man took out his phone and clumsily dialed, before realizing that they probably wouldn’t understand him, and giving the phone to Sarah.
She started talking to the operator.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sarah talked to the 911 operator. “911, what's your emergency?”
“This man has been shot in the leg,” she answered.
“Oh no! Do you know your location?”
“The Supa Awesome Science Center Over There, on sesame street!”
“Help is on the way! Stay where you are,” instructed the operator.
“The ambulance is on the way, guys. We should be alright.”

Dog Man could smell Lil’ Petey. His scent was so strong, he almost felt like Lil’ Petey was right there next to him.
His heart was racing with excitement. They were almost there!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Petey felt like he couldn’t breathe. They were so close he could taste it.
Lil’ Petey was the only reason he was still alive. He had given him the strength to live.
Before his son came into his life, he had been in a really bad place. He
remembered once, waking up in the hospital with bandages on his wrists, and he wished he had never been born.
But Lil’ Petey reminded him that there were good things in life, too. And that’s why Lil’ Petey was a hero. Not because of the Supa Buddies, but because he was a ray of hope when he needed it most.
They walked down the stairs. It felt surreal to him. After all of that, he was finally going to get his son back. Lil’ Petey.
He took a deep breath as they reached the bottom. He spotted the cage with his son in it!
“Kid!” He ran to the cage. Lil’ Petey looked up. Tears immediately filled up his eyes.
“Papa!” he cried. Petey grabbed the keys that were hanging on a hook near the cage, and unlocked the door. He ran inside the cage and hugged his son, tighter than ever before.
He cried openly, never having felt so happy and relieved before. He was finally back with his son. They were together again.
The rest of the group came over. Chief took the keys from Petey and took off the cuffs on Lil’ Petey’s wrists. Then everyone joined the hug.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Papa came, Lil’ Petey thought for a second that it wasn't real, that he was hallucinating, but it quickly became evident that this was the real Petey, and that his Papa was truly here.
He cried and hugged his Papa. A warmth filled him, such as which he hadn't felt in three and a half weeks now.
He sunk into the embrace of the people he loved. They were together again.
He was no longer alone.
